Millfield Preparatory School, Glastonbury
Following in-depth technical discussions and a competitive tendering process, Smith Construction were awarded the contract to reconstruct and refurbish the sand-dressed hockey pitch, colour-coated netball and tennis courts at Millfield Preparatory School, as well as the installation of a new athletics jumps area.
The ground at the Prep school required Smith Construction’s pioneering method of ground stabilisation, to strengthen the formation and improve CBR values.
A formulated blend of lime and cement was amalgamated within the formation, and after being compacted and installed using laser controlled machinery to achieve exact surface tolerances, the new formation provided a superior base for the synthetic pitch construction. The new pitch was designed to meet the International Hockey Federation requirements and a sand-dressed, Tiger Turf Evo Pro, artificial grass carpet installed to FIH National Standard. Markings for hockey and cross pitch play have been permanently installed.
The completed hockey pitch and hard courts include new sustainable drainage systems and twin-bar bespoke perimeter fencing.
The existing tennis courts at Millfield School were also refurbished to upgrade the surface to a new coloured acrylic finish.
