Smith Construction is delighted to have been awarded the contract to provide Lindum Sports Association, Lincolnshire, with a full sized Hockey Pitch, with associated ground works, fencing, floodlighting and a 30 space car park.
Lindum Sports Association was awarded £235,717 of National Lottery Funding by Sport England last month, which means the project can finally proceed. The Sport England funding has been added to donations from England Hockey, The National Hockey Foundation, Longdales Trust and Lincoln Minister School.
David Dawson, chairman of Lindum Sports Association, was delighted to have been awarded the funding, ‘This is wonderful news for hockey in Lincolnshire and obviously for Lindum Sports Association. We are all absolutely delighted about it. The project has been planned for quite some time, but we haven’t been able to start until we had all the money. Now that the rugby club is moving, it has left us with spare land and also a big hole in our income. It was necessary for us to have something to replace them and this hockey pitch will do that.’
The pitch is said to be the only dedicated hockey pitch in the county and it will become the home of two city clubs. Lincoln Hockey Club and Lincoln Roses Hockey Club are due to play their games at the facility, and Lincoln Minster School will also be using the pitch during term time, once it has been completed in September.
The news that the project would begin was welcomed by Lincoln MP Karl McCartney. He said ‘I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Lindum Sports Association on their long campaign to secure funding to improve the facilities, and on .this remarkable achievement.’
