Smith Construction began work refurbishing the facility at Edgbarrow Sports Centre in April this year. The £280,000 project was to refurbish the old hockey pitch and replace with a surface replicating those constructed for, and played on during the Hockey World Cup, which took place in Glasgow in May 2014. The project saw the total replacement of the playing surface, shock pad and macadam. The surface has been designed to ensure fast hockey play at the highest level.
The World Cup Pitch received a fabulous response during the games and made headlines such as ‘The World Cup pitch is very fast’, and ‘The best artificial turf for playing pitch hockey’. The sports centre is delighted with their world class hockey pitch, and have received fabulous feedback so far. The club expect a full calendar of hockey teams requesting to use the pitch.
Smith Maintenance will be continuing to work with Edgbarrow Sports Centre to ensure the pitch receives the professional care and maintenance required to help prolong its longevity.
