Smith Construction undertook a substantial £1.4million contact to provide St Mary’s School Ascot, with new sports facilities in 2013/2014. The large redevelopment included a six lane 400m athletics track, complete with associated athletics facilities – 8 lane 100m sprint straight, pole vault, hammer and discus facility, water jump, shot put and long jump. A full sized hockey pitch to comply with FIH specifications, was constructed within the track, complete with associated fencing, and training areas and an equipment store. The whole was project was constructed using a ‘green theme’ with both the athletics track and hockey pitch being green.
A complete rejuvenation and line marking of St Mary’s School Ascot’s original hockey pitch was undertaken in the autumn of 2014 to bring the surface back to tip top condition. The work was carefully completed to regain the performance characteristics and playability of the pitch, as it was originally installed more than ten years ago.
Work began on a specialist maintenance regime at the school immediately after the installation of their new athletics track and second artificial grass hockey pitch. Smith Maintenance will be working closely with the team at St Mary’s School Ascot to ensure they are kept in superb condition. Both pitches are to be cared for by Smith Maintenance, under a 5-year contract, providing specialist services.
Estate Manager, Trevor Clark said ‘Smith Construction design and build exceptional sports surfaces all over the UK. Here at St Mary’s School Ascot, we have the same confidence in Smith Maintenance. Their skilled technicians support us in caring for our all-weather pitches, making sure we can be very proud of our outstanding facilities for years to come.’
Jeanette Munton, Smith Maintenance General Manager said, ‘We are absolutely delighted to be selected for this prestigious project, and we look forward to working closely with the schools grounds team over the coming months to make sure the surfaces are maintained to the highest standards.
