Smith Construction invests in new machinery from Lincolnshire based ‘Shelton Sportsturf Drainage Ltd’. Shelton design and manufacture specialist drainage machinery, which is engineered with sports surfacing in mind. As a result, and unlike some more traditional drainage methods, Shelton’s machinery and drainage techniques will leave minimal impact on grass and can be ready to play a mere 24 hours after the work has been completed.
Russ Smith, Transport and Plant Manager said ‘Our business in the natural grass sports surface area is growing and we have seen the need to have a wider variety of specialist kit at our finger tips. We first encounted Shelton Machinery when we were contracted to construct the warm-up track at the London 2012 Olympics and we were really impressed, not only with the functionality and build quality of the machinery but also the results of the work. I fell in love with their machinery, and I have been keen to add Shelton kit to our fleet ever since. We are excited about what this machinery can offer our clients.’
The new additions to our fleet include; a Shelton Supertrencher +625, a 3 tonne Gravel Band Drainer and a 3 point Linkage Gravel Band Drainer. Our works are continuing to grow with the sports surface business, therefore have seen the need to increase our fleet and with these specialist, robust machines that will help carry out heavy duty works, such as soil stabilisation and secondary drainage installation. The new machinery will give Smith Construction the ability to take on more varied projects and to operate more efficiently in a competitive market. The 3 tonne Gravel Band Drainer is already working on a site in Dorset, installing 8,000m of secondary drainage with excellent results.
