Following in-depth technical discussions and a competitive tendering process, Smith Construction were awarded the contract to reconstruct and refurbish the hockey pitch, netball/tennis court and new athletic jumps area at Millfield Prep, as well as refurbishing the acrylic tennis courts at Millfield School.
The ground required Smith Construction’s pioneering method of ground stabilisation to strengthen the formation and improve CBR values. A formulated blend of lime and cement is amalgamated with the formation, providing a superior base for the synthetic surface. The new pitch was designed to meet the International Hockey Federation requirements and installed to National Standard performance.
The completed pitch includes a new sustainable drainage system, perimeter fencing, a sand-dressed FIH certified TigerTurf Evo Pro hockey surface and an all-weather water based polyurethane colour coated tennis surface.
Craig Richardson, Grounds and Gardens Manager at Millfield and Millfield Prep, said, “At Millfield Prep we are very proud of the high quality facilities we offer our pupils. Smith Construction’s knowledge and experience was clear from the start of the tender process and we value the commitment the team has shown on site throughout the project as we build up to the new school year.”
Ken Smith, Managing Director of Smith Construction comments, “It was a delight to be working with Millfield Prep School; the school is an amazing place and the project to completely rebuild the sports surfaces and spectator areas was very satisfying. We are pleased to have handed over this fantastic facility before the new school year starts.”
