Construction Skills Gold Award for Smith Construction
Improving Construction Skills and Health and Safety competence is high on the agenda at Smith Construction whether they are building Athletics Tracks, ATP’s, Sports Halls or Changing Facilities. To prove it, the company has been awarded the CSCS Certificate of Commitment - Gold Standard.
The CSCS Scheme, which is recognised nationally by the Government, Major Contractors Groups and Organisations across the construction industry, award the Gold Standard to companies when 75% of their staff are qualified and registered.
Smith Construction are proud to report that over 95% of their 90-strong workforce are accredited to this standard. Its staff have worked very hard to obtain their individual certificates of competence.
Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Civil Engineer-Site Managers, Specialist Tradesmen, Site Operatives and Plant Drivers have all received wide-ranging training, the majority over a period of years, some in multiple disciplines.
The company’s No.1 reason for putting its staff through this varied training and assessment process has always been to further its skills base and to improve general Health and Safety competence. However, the effects of working together on interesting projects, where constant high standards are a shared aim, a strong team spirit has been built, which means the company retains the most skilled and experienced people, some have been there for up to 23 years!
