Smith Construction’s Managing Director Ken Smith and Site Manager Jason Phipps, were delighted to be invited to St Mary’s School, Ascot to attend the official opening of the new state-of-the-art sports facilities.
Smith Construction were awarded the substantial £1.4 million contract to provide St Mary’s School with new sports facilities. The project included a 6-lane 400m athletics track, complete with associated athletics facilities – 8-lane 100m sprint straight, pole vault, hammer and discus facility, water jump, shot put and long jump. A full sized hockey pitch to comply with FIH specifications was built within the track, complete with Fencing and Floodlighting, training areas and an equipment store.
The whole project was constructed using a ‘green theme’, with the track being a green porous polymeric surface to IAAF UK A Standards, and a green FIH approved hockey surface.
British Olympic Heptathlete Denise Lewis was one of the official guests opening the fabulous facilities. Denise Lewis is a retired British athlete who specialised in the Heptathlon. She won the gold medal in the heptathlon at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
