Another high quality facility has been completed for the prestigious King’s College School in Wimbledon by Lincolnshire based sports contractors, Smith Construction.
After successfully constructing a project earlier in the year at the school’s Kingsway Sports Ground, Smith Construction were selected to design and build six artificial tennis courts using TigerTurf’s Advantage Pro product.
The tennis court project was completed on time and on budget in April this year. The project included fencing and floodlighting to ensure safe and maximum use all year round. The courts have been praised by internal and external players, Andrew Moore, Enterprise Director at King’s College School and keen tennis player said, ‘the courts are superb, they have been well received by all pupils and Club Members and the surface plays beautifully.’
The courts have inlaid markings for tennis and are used every day in and out of term time. The courts are utilised through the winter months, with games such as practice football and hockey taking place on them.
The previous project completed by Smith Construction at King’s College School, was a full size sand-dressed hockey pitch using TigerTurf’s Evolution, constructed in August 2009. Smith Construction was awarded the contract due to the excellent drainage proposal and the stabilisation techniques included in the bid. The site for the pitch was close to a stream and a London clay base. Smith Construction also had to work closely with the council to overcome a number of planning conditions due to the site being located near a bat commuting corridor.
Smith Construction were delighted to work with the King’s College School on both occasions and are proud of the facilities they constructed, and pleased to hear they are being utilised to their full potential.
