Petr Cech Opens Smith Pitch and Pavilion at Xcel 3

Wed, 13 Jan 2010 at 16:14

Chelsea Football Club’s goalkeeper, Petr Cech cut the ribbon and the new 3G turf pitch and pavilion at the Xcel Leisure Centre, Walton-on-Thames was officially opened.  It turned out to be a freezing cold, yet bright and sunny day in December and many players, guests and officials enjoyed a reception in the new pavilion, followed by some fairly serious but friendly games!

Petr Cech along with the Mayor of Elmbridge Borough Council, James Vickers, Football Foundation’s Director of Operations, Dave McDermot and The FA’s County Development Manager, Caroline McRoyall attended the event and came to see the newly constructed facilities.

The project, a full-size, synthetic grass pitch, training pitch, pavilion, cycle track and car park was designed and built by Smith Construction with the aid of a £649,000 grant from Football Foundation . Footballer’s and Rugby players will have the benefit of a great playing surface and changing facilities right next to all of the other facilities at the main leisure centre.
